York County Community Foundation’s Racial Equity Fund Awards $11,000 in Grants to Two Local Organizations

(YORK, PA, July 11, 2023) – The Racial Equity Fund (REF) Grant Program of the York County Community Foundation (YCCF) recently awarded $11,000 in grants to two local nonprofits. The REF Committee is comprised of community leaders of color who select projects that address issues of racism and inequity.

The Racial Equity Fund offers grants of up to $15,000 each for projects that address equity gaps for communities of color in the following areas:

  • Education and job readiness
  • Criminal justice system
  • Community leadership and development
  • Income and wealth creation
  • Racial and cultural education
  • Health and wellness

The following programs were awarded grants from the Racial Equity Fund:

  • $6,000 from the Racial Equity Fund to the White Rose Leadership Institute Inheritance Project: Integration Group Coaching. This six-month Integration Coaching Package with The Inheritance Project will focus on a real-world use of inclusive leadership tools, conflict resolution, breathing practices, emotions, behavior, and empathy.
  • $5,000 from the Racial Equity Fund to Girls on the Run Mid State PA for its Bridging the Gap between Participant and Volunteer Demographics – Phase 1 Program. Girls on the Run believes that belonging occurs where inclusion, diversity, equity, and access intersect. By ensuring participants see themselves reflected in the volunteers leading its evidence-based programs, the organization can amplify the impact and outcomes of its program.

Adrian Buckner, Vice President of Grants and Community Engagement and Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer at YCCF said, “York County Community Foundation’s Racial Equity Fund continues to support organizations that are doing impactful work for BI-POC individuals. We believe this work is imperative to creating a vibrant York County where everyone can thrive.”

To qualify for a grant, nonprofits must be working directly with people of color, with a preference for projects that are led by people of color.

Organizations who are interested in applying for funding or would like to discuss their project should contact Adrian Buckner at abuckner@yccf.org.

YCCF created the Racial Equity Fund in 2020 to establish a dedicated grant program to support meaningful, positive action towards addressing racial inequities in our community.  Additional contributions are being sought to sustain an endowment to ensure meaningful grants are distributed every year.
