(York, PA, August 7, 2024) – York County Community Foundation (YCCF) is excited to announce its most recent round of grants to local nonprofits serving York County from various grant funding programs, including YCCF’s THRIVE Community Grant Program, Embracing Aging Community Grant Program, and Environmental Fund Grant Programs.
Michele Mummert, YCCF’s new Vice President of Grants & Community Engagement is excited to learn how the following programs and projects will help create a more vibrant York County for years to come. “York County benefits from a strong network of mission-driven nonprofits. The YCCF team is thrilled to support these organizations and their efforts to positively impact the lives of people across our community,” shared Michele.
The latest grants from YCCF’s THRIVE Grant Program include:
- $25,000 to York Literacy Institute to expand its English as a Second Language (ESL) Program which teaches English to non or limited speakers and improves their functional literacy skills.
- $21,250 to CASA for its Economic Empowerment Programming which combines workforce development and financial capacity building to improve the economic well-being and security of York’s immigrant and Latino families and communities.
- $10,000 to 18 South Student Ministries, Inc for its 18 South Community Youth Center – a safe, teen-centered, environment that provides Red Lion residents who live below the poverty line with basic needs, mental health and wellness programs, and future planning/educational opportunities.
- $10,000 to York Habitat for Humanity for its Pine Street Affordable Homeownership Construction project to begin construction of a single-family home for affordable homeownership on a blighted site on S. Pine Street in York City.
- $8,610 to First Presbyterian Church of York to help neighbors in need prepare, organize, and draft resumes and job applications.
- $1,100 to Leg Up Farm, Inc., to expand its Equine Assisted Learning program services by certifying a Leg Up Farm riding instructor as an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning.
The latest grants from the Bob Hoffman Sports & Fitness Fund include:
- $10,000 to Byrnes Health Education Center to upgrade its Enhanced Nutrition and Fitness Props – educational tools for their nutrition and fitness programs. These new items will provide more hands-on learning, participant engagement, and stronger reinforcement of concepts taught.
- $10,000 to York Day Early Learning from the Bob Hoffman Sports & Fitness Fund for its Healthy Habits Start Early program to provide every child with intentional gross motor programming every day.
The latest grants from the Doris E. Schwartz Education Fund include:
- $2,000 to the School District of the City of York for its Aquaponics System: Farming in the Classroom program to create an outdoor classroom for lessons on plants, animals, and water cycles and systems.
The latest grants from the Focus On Our Future Fund include:
- $15,000 to Community Connections for Children for its Ready Freddy program, a research-based kindergarten readiness program that partners with early childhood education providers and school districts. The program provides information for families and children to be prepared to transition to kindergarten.
The latest grants from the Hahn Home Fund for Embracing Aging include:
- $40,000 to Servants Inc. for its Home Helps program to finalize about 50 projects to cover home repairs and upgrades such as ramps, non-slip flooring, tub-to-shower conversions, and handrails. These projects will benefit older adults and individuals living in low-income families.
- $10,000 to PennCares Support Services for a project called, “The Joy of Using Lego Serious Play and Wits Workout for Improved Engagement and Healthy Aging with Seniors.” Lego Serious Play offers seniors a great way to achieve and improve manual dexterity, stimulate brain function, and bring out memories and stories. The Wits Workout provides purposeful opportunities for older adults to engage intellectually and increase socialization through ongoing group participation.
- $10,000 for Theatre Arts for Everyone (TAFE) for its Senior Touring Troupe program that specializes in performances that are written and performed by seniors. The Troup travels around York County and feels at home in any space. Transportation and financial issues have made it impossible for some members of our community to attend live theatre. This program brings the show to them.
- $10,000 to Alliance for Low-Income Personal Care Home Advancement (ALPHA) for its Improving Viability and Success of Supplemental Security Income Personal Care Homes (SSI PCHs) in York County project. This project aims to guide the SSI PCHs toward more financial security and business growth and build toward improved marketplace supply.
- $10,000 to LifePath Christian Ministries to provide safe shelter, physical accommodations, and support services for homeless and at-risk persons in York County, age 55+ to assist them with stabilizing their situations allowing them to locate permanent housing solutions.
- $5,000 to VisionCorps for a project that addresses and supports the visual impairments of older adults at no cost to the client to ensure their independence and help them become self-sufficient.
- $4,500 to York County Village Association to build its technology capabilities and be able to administer the current and future technological needs of the organization.
The latest grants from the Jeffrey D. Myers LGBTQ+ Fund include:
- $1,000 to Theatre Arts for Everyone (TAFE) for “The Laramie Project”, a play that documents the response of the town of Laramie, Wyoming to the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man. The playwright and company members interviewed residents, police, and Matthew’s friends, in an attempt to understand what happened and why.
- $2,000 to YWCA Hanover for its Qmmunity Program – an LGBTQIA+ youth group for ages 14-20 and their allies that provides a safe space where participants can be themselves without fear of judgment and engage in an encouraging and caring environment. The grant funds will allow these youth to participate in local/regional activities and events, as well as create materials to generate awareness for this program through local school districts and the community.
The latest grants from YCCF’s Environmental Fund Grant Programs include:
- $60,000 to the Farm & Natural Lands Trust of York County for technology upgrades, capacity building, and public relations to better steward our conservation easements and organizations and to continue to promote their work in land preservation across York County.
