Joyce M. Ottemiller Fund

Joyce and Creston Ottemiller led long and fulfilling lives in York. The high school sweethearts went on to marry, raise children, and enjoy successful careers as an engineer (Cres) and pharmacist (Joyce). In fact, until his death in 2016, Creston lived in the same house where he and Joyce raised their three children and served on the Board of the Agricultural Society for more than 30 years. Joyce was very dedicated to her work. She often tried to retire from the pharmacy field to raise the children, but she always came back to help fill in when someone was out and would end up staying. When Joyce passed away in 2012, Creston wanted to make sure he made their philanthropic passions come to fruition in a way that reflected their values and deep concern for others. They had talked at length about how to best support their favorite charitable organizations in perpetuity, and a Fund at the Community Foundation helped Creston meet his and Joyce’s charitable wishes. The fund will support York’s Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army.
