James Sadler & Catherine Halsted Fund

This Fund was created from the Estate of Catherine Halsted in memory of her son, James Sadler, who was killed in a car accident when he was 16. James was big for his age and Catherine dreamed he would one day play football for the Pittsburgh Steelers. She described James as a kind and compassionate young man who was always willing to help others. Although James encountered much trouble during his short life, he had been flourishing at River Rock Academy at the time of his death. He loved scouting, his dog, and enjoyed taking long hikes in the fields and woods near his home. Catherine wished to memorialize her son, so she approached her advisor, Jody Anderson Leighty, for help. Jody directed Catherine to the Community Foundation, where a Field of Interest scholarship in James’ name would be broad enough to help troubled youth in the many areas that represented James’ interests. Catherine truly appreciated the flexibility of a Field of Interest fund and was grateful for the professional experience the Community Foundation provided in helping her son’s legacy live on forever.
