Four Chaplains Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship fund honors Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, one of the four chaplains who gave their lives when the USS Dorchester was torpedoed by the Nazis in 1943. Rabbi Goode worked to develop York’s interfaith community and helped lay the groundwork for York’s first racially integrated Boy Scout troop. The image of Rabbi Goode and the other chaplains linking arms as the Dorchester sank became an icon for the remainder of WWII. The Four Chaplains Scholarship Endowment Fund will provide scholarship support to a graduate of the York City School District who had attended Goode Elementary School.
