York City and the surrounding area has benefited greatly in many ways with the creativity and excitement brought in by artists, their shops, art shows, enthusiasm, the theater and music. The art programs also helped people find their own levels of creativity. The financial benefits for the city with more foot traffic are obvious. All this adds to the quality of life of the community. Since the 1980’s, Guy Alosa and Georgette Eveland-Alosa were very involved with the development and showcasing of all the seven arts in York. Through YorkArts, now Creative York, educational arts programs and outreach programs were added. Their journey was a long one. There is so much they could say about the early years with YorkArts, Creative York. Besides the visual, musical and literary arts, Guy and Georgette enjoyed the theater, whether it was attending plays, mystery dinners, costume parties or Halloween golf. Guy was no shrinking violet and they both loved to dress in costume with their friends. They traveled to Ontario for the Shaw Festival several years, and attended plays at York Little Theater. He also had a great voice and sang karaoke whenever and wherever, be it Italy, Mexico or York. It is their wish that through the Eveland-Alosa Fund, these programs for which they worked so diligently, and the community theater they enjoyed will continue so future generations might continue to express and enjoy their creativity, keeping this vibrant city alive in the arts.
