Chief Rodney P. Miller Memorial Fund

Rodney Miller was a firefighter through and through. He joined the Loganville Volunteer Fire Company as a junior volunteer at age 16, following in his older brother Gary’s footsteps, and was elected chief in 2001. Rodney served as a volunteer for 29 years before his line of duty death in April 2013 while at the scene of a crash. People who knew Rodney speak about his infectious smile, blue eyes, enormous bear hugs and his heart of gold. Rodney’s life touched many and was far outreaching. Rodney never sought notoriety, but his leadership and devotion to his volunteer work led to numerous awards and recognitions such as the establishment of the Chief Rodney P. Miller Safety Award by Stat MedEvac; Star of Life Award by PA Ambulance Association; York/Adams Red Cross Firefighter Hero in 2013; and Rodney P. Miller Memorial Bridge at the Loganville exit of I-83. Rodney is honored at the PA National Fire Museum Wall of Honor; the PA DUI Memorial Garden (he was the victim of a repeat DUI offender); and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Rodney was also a Gift of Life Donor. After his death, he was named chief emeritus of the Loganville Volunteer Fire Company by his peers. This fund was created by his family, in part from memorials the family received. Rodney’s life spoke volumes and in the end rang out “well done good and faithful servant.”
