Carroll G. Granger Community Fund

Established in 2021

Carroll and Connie Granger’s house in Hanover became a second home for many kids, not counting their own three children, J.D., Aimee, and Brian. Carroll Granger was a longtime coach and de facto second father to many athletes on his teams. He was born in Pikesville, MD on March 23, 1943, to Ethline and William Granger.

Carroll graduated from Hanover High School in 1961. He earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1965, and met his wife, Connie, in the Fall of 1966. Carroll taught at West York and Hanover Junior High. In 1972, he was hired to teach at Emory H. Markle Intermediate school and coached the varsity boys’ basketball at South Western High School. He also coached girls’ and boys’ tennis at South Western and ran the “Morning League” community baseball/softball program for forty-three years.

In retirement, Carroll enjoyed time with his wife, Connie, their children, grandchildren, friends, and relatives. Sadly, he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2009. With his faith and iron will to live, laugh, and love, Carroll far outlived his prognosis. Over the last year of his life, cancer diminished his quality of life, yet he refused to give up. In true come-from-behind fashion, he pushed his last days into overtime, his last minutes to a tie-break, and left it all on the court.
