(York, PA, January 9, 2024) – Memorial Health Fund, a supporting organization of the York County Community Foundation, recently awarded over $477,000 in grants to twenty-one York County organizations to address compelling health issues of the residents of York and its surrounding communities.
“These grants target many basic needs for struggling families and offer a range of unique services from agencies looking to provide an innovative approach to their work,” said, Michelle Hovis, Chair of the Memorial Health Fund Board.
The latest round of grants from the Memorial Health Fund include:
- $20,000 to CASA for its Community Health Education Project to bring together community members, medical providers, and mental health practitioners to learn about health topics of particular importance and relevance to immigrants and Latinos in York.
- $25,000 to Chasing the Rainbows Inc for its Daily Support Services program which seeks to increase daily peer to peer support for those living after fertility, pregnancy, and baby loss. By partnering with experts, Chasing Rainbows will develop effective and efficient materials to give survivors the support they need.
- $40,000.00 to Children’s Aid Society for its York CARES Code Blue Emergency Shelter for Singles to provide emergency shelter through church partnerships to single adult males and females during the coldest evenings of the winter season mid-December through the end of March.
- $2,700 to Children’s Home of York (CHOY) for its Wellness Program to purchase fitness equipment for the establishment of a wellness room on CHOY’s main campus.
- $25,000.00 to Community REACH, Inc. for its Food Project to increase food insecurity needs and provide York County families with nutritious food.
- $11,090 to Crispus Attucks Association for its Cultivating Healthy Living program which provides nutrition and fitness programming for York County senior citizens.
- $50,000 to Family First Health for its William Penn High School Health Center Start-Up to support a new full-service school-based primary medical and behavioral health center at William Penn High School.
- $50,000.00 to Friends & Neighbors Of Pennsylvania Inc for expansion of its Coordinated Street Outreach services at The Coffee Spot Day Shelter in York City to provide health snacks, first aid medical supplies, and other services for unsheltered, homeless, and at-risk neighbors.
- $15,000 to Help for Oncology Problems & Emotional Support (HOPE) for programming support of Hope Haven, a retreat residence for cancer patients and their families in York County.
- $10,000 to Junior Achievement of South-Central PA for its STEM Summit – Helping to Expose York County Students to Health Care Careers program to help students explore health care concepts and careers through hands-on activities and volunteer interactions.
- $25,000 to New Hope Ministries to provide hygiene and health products to low-income individuals in York County to improve the health, dignity, and wellbeing of women.
- $35,000 to Pappus House to provide equipment to support the property management maintenance needs at its new home for end-of-life care.
- $12,500 to Planned Parenthood Keystone for its Rapid STI Combo Testing program to test for chlamydia and gonorrhea with results available in 30 minutes, instead of results taking a few days.
- $30,000 to Rising Stars Football Academy Foundation for its Football Summer Camp program to provide participants with educational, health, and financial literacy resources for student-athletes and their families.
- $10,000 to The WELL for its Outreach 2023 program to extend the operating hours of its food pantry due to the increase in need in the community.
- $13,300 to TrueNorth Wellness Services for its Enhanced Supplemental Nutrition Pilot Project to provide clients with higher quality foods, education, and tools to improve their physical and mental health. Data will be collected on changes to clients’ health to advocate for appropriate local and state funding to improve access to nutritious food.
- $33,000 a year for 3 years totaling 100,000 to UPMC Pinnacle Foundation for its Farm to Hospital program, a partnership with York Fresh Food Farms to establish a farm on the UPMC Memorial campus to grow fresh produce year-round to benefit the York community.
- $15,000 to White Rose Leadership Institute for its Give Local York Healthcare Stretch Pool. Give Local York is an initiative to grow local giving and build nonprofit capacity.
- $32,000.00 to Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine & Hose Company #1 for its Rope Rescue Equipment Replacement program to replace outdated rope rescue equipment.
- $6,000.00 to YWCA Hanover for its Gen Zen Program to bring together young people and senior living adults for an intergenerational program that benefits their mental health.
- $49,889.00 to YWCA York for its Swimming Towards a Whole and Healthy York program to transform health and wellness through comprehensive aquatics programming which benefits all ages and abilities in our community.
