York County Community Foundation granted $20,000 to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Harvey. The grants were awarded after YCCF put out a call to action to fundholders who recommended grant assistance.
“York County is full of compassionate, generous people, and as leaders in philanthropy, YCCF is here to assist them in making timely charitable gifts to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey,” said Jane Conover, YCCF President and CEO. “The role of community foundations is to help facilitate assistance for the greatest needs in the community, and we know that the Greater Houston Community Foundation is facing a tremendous need at this time.”
Grants have been made to several charitable organizations, including the American Red Cross, Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services, and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at the Greater Houston Community Foundation. Relief assistance was provided by YCCF’s Fund for York County and six donor advised funds, including $15,000 from the Wolf Inaugural Fund. The Wolf Inaugural Fund was created with the remainder of the proceeds raised for Governor Tom Wolf’s gubernatorial inaugural festivities in 2015.
“Frances and I have been absolutely heartbroken to see the devastation and destruction from Hurricane Harvey. But we’ve also been inspired by the incredible acts of courageousness and generosity amid this disaster that makes it clear that the spirit of Texans and Americans will not be broken,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “Frances and I, along with all Pennsylvanians, proudly stand with Texas through these trying times. When our neighbors need help, Pennsylvanians answer.”
