Community Grant Reader: Sharon Christ

Read what inspired Sharon Christ to become a community grant reader with YCCF and learn how you can join this passionate group of volunteers.

How did you learn about this volunteer opportunity?

I learned about the grant reader opportunity through Cathy Bollinger and my connection with her through Embracing Aging.

What do you like best about being a community grant reader?

It’s exciting to learn about the initiatives that are taking place throughout the community. I like to think I’m an informed community member, and yet every time I go through the grant process, I learn a ton!

Which causes are you most passionate about?

Education in the broadest sense of the term. I worked in higher education for 35 years with 18 to 60+ year old’s and found my “happy place” in seeing them succeed; whether in a formal classroom or through life experiences years after they had left the university.

Which grant was the most impactful for you, and why?

All the grants are impactful in some way. There are so many people doing so much good in the community that every ask is benefiting some group. Organizations that partner with each other to work towards a common goal will always get the most out of their grant funds.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I am very much an introvert and prefer the spotlight to be on others and all the good that they are doing in their worlds.
