Community Foundation Awards Grants 2015

York County Community Foundation recently awarded more than $155,000 in grants to several area nonprofits from its Fund for York County, Children’s Program Fund, and Hahn Home Fund. Fund for York County and Children’s Program Fund grants were awarded through the Strategic Community Grants program to nonprofit organizations whose proposals addressed one of the Community Foundation’s three focus areas: Education, Downtown Revitalization, or Nonprofit and Municipal Strategic Alliances. Hahn Home Fund grants were awarded through the Embracing Aging initiative, the Community Foundation’s effort to make York County a great place to age.

DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION GRANTS

Borough of Wrightsville received $10,000 for the revitalization of its Riverfront Park through the design, permitting and construction of recreational, historical, and environmental conservation improvements within the park.

Community First Fund received $10,000 to support the creation and retention of businesses in York City.

Dillsburg Arts and Revitalization Council received $5,000 to develop and implement annual programs for the new Arts Center.

Healthy World Café received $6,000 to create a new, vibrant nonprofit community café in downtown York.

Mason-Dixon Business Association received $5,000 to develop a five-year revitalization plan for downtown Delta’s historic Main Street and Delta Borough.

New Freedom Heritage $10,000 to create a beautiful and historical brick patio and walkway featuring lighting, a bike rack, and landscaping in its downtown park.

York County Rail Trail Authority received $10,000 for construction management for the rail trail extension through North York Borough.

EDUCATION GRANTS

The Foundation for the West York Area School District received $8,355 to provide English language learners with an on-site computer lab for supplemental instruction.

Leadership York received $3,500 for the Growing Young Philanthropists component of the FLY program, which encourages young people to become lifelong, responsible, active participants in their hometown community.

National Audubon Society received $8,000 to expand the Learn, Explore and Restore Program for York City students to learn about their local environment, collect data, and restore habitat.

YWCA York received $3,127 for cultural competency training for YWCA staff to enhance classroom learning.

HAHN HOME FUND GRANTS

Family First Health received $20,000 for its “Hub and Spoke” Outreach Program to provide weekly primary care services on-site at the White Rose Senior Center.

Windy Hill on the Campus Senior Center received $18,630 to hold intergenerational visual and performing arts sessions with young students and older adults. Windy Hill will also expand its fitness studio to help older adults stay active.

York City received $6,300 to add age-friendly components to Olde York Street Fair and the Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival to help ensure a positive experience for attendees of all ages.

York College of Pennsylvania received $20,000 to implement an intergenerational and interdisciplinary collaborative to offer “A Matter of Balance,” a program to help prevent falls in older adults.

York County Food Alliance received $8,590 for “Grow Your Own Veggie Club” to increase access to healthy fresh foods for older adults living in York City.

York County Heritage Trust received $2,500 to conduct a Focus Group Study to determine future facility and programming needs of the senior visitor to the York County Heritage Trust.
