Rabiya Khan, Communications Coordinator 2
Rabiya joined the YCCF team in 2021 with over 15 years of experience in the field of Journalism, Marketing, and Communications.
She moved to York County with her son in 2006 and has since worked and volunteered for several nonprofit agencies. With her expertise in creating website content and social media, Rabiya will play a key role in increasing YCCF’s online presence by telling the stories of our donors and grantees. Through a combination of marketing and events, she’ll also provide opportunities for York County residents to understand how gifts to the Foundation can create a lasting impact for generations to come. Rabiya has witnessed the generosity of the York community and looks forward to sharing the positive impact made by YCCF’s generous fund holders, donors, and grantees.
A strident supporter of multicultural societies and interfaith dialogue, Rabiya founded the Solidarity Society of South-Central PA in 2015 after the senseless and brutal murder of three Palestinian-American university students in North Carolina. This hate crime motivated Rabiya to lead her first protest march at the State Capitol. Her social justice activism is dedicated to confronting anti-Muslim bias, promoting peaceful dialogue, and eliminating prejudice and fear of Islam and immigrants. Rabiya offers various educational forums to the community through programs like MEET A MUSLIM AMERICAN (MAMA) and Penn State York’s OLLIE program where she teaches Islam 101 courses and provides an opportunity for residents to meet and speak with local Muslims. Her goal is to dispel the myths and misunderstandings about her faith. From 2015-2021, she served on the Advisory Board of CAIR – the Council on American Islamic Relations, a grassroots civil rights and advocacy group dedicated to protecting and promoting the civil liberties of Muslim Americans. Rabiya also serves on YCCF’s DEI committee.
In 2021, she was appointed by the Mayor of York to serve as a Commissioner for the City of York Human Relations Commission where she previously held the position of Investigator. The commission is tasked with adjudicating anti-discrimination complaints in housing, employment, and public accommodations and enforces the anti-discrimination ordinance of the City of York.
In 2023, Rabiya earned her certification as a Unite to Heal PA Ambassador, an initiative of the YWCA. With this credential, she has performed workshops with local community members to discuss the harm of racism and the important work needed to heal. The long-term goal of Unite to Heal PA is to compile data on the harmful impacts of racism and present these findings to lawmakers and urge the Governor of PA to declare racism a public health crisis in Pennsylvania.
In her spare time, Rabiya enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new hiking trails, and traveling. She also loves cuddling up on the couch with her lazy but adorable cats Rocco & Leah, affectionately known as Noonoo and Kitty!
