$274,000 in grants have been awarded to 11 organizations to improve the complete physical, mental and social well-being of the residents of York and its surrounding communities. The grants were awarded by Memorial Health Fund, a supporting organization of the York County Community Foundation.
“The health and well-being of our community has many components,” said Jack Kay, chair of the Memorial Health Fund Board of Directors. “The Memorial Health Fund seeks to address some of the most critical pieces through this round of funding. From educational programming for the youngest of our community members to memory care for some of our oldest, the board is pleased with the variety of applications we received and are able to fund.”
- $90,000 over three years to Byrnes Health Education Center for a three-year pilot program demonstrating the power of preventive health education delivered consistently over a prescribed period of time to a stable school community.
- $50,000 to Pappus House to provide compassionate end-of-life care to individuals and their families, in collaboration with their hospice provider in an independent, freestanding residence.
- $35,000 to Communities in Schools to provide critical integrated student health services to the students of Hannah Penn K-8.
- $26,000 to Penn-Mar Human Services for the Community Integrated Employment program. The program assists individuals with intellectual disabilities to gain fulfilling and quality employment at a competitive wage in a community-based job.
- $25,000 to Misericordia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for engagement tools to enhance residents’ quality of life and social engagement.
- $20,000 to the City of York – Bureau of Health for a strategic planning process and developing a public health strategic plan for the City of York.
- $11,777 to SpiriTrust Lutheran to purchase two devices for memory support care for assisted living and independent living residents at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Sprenkle Drive.
- $6,500 to the Epilepsy Foundation of Western/Central PA for The Emergency Medication Assistance Fund, which provides support for up to a 30-day supply of anti-seizure medication.
- $5,000 to Healthy York County Coalition to support its new mission in improving the health and wellness of our community.
- $2,500 to York County Cerebral Palsy Home, Inc. for The Vocational Endeavors program, which provides productive volunteer work for residents who have a work drive, set goals, and enjoy being socially, physically and cognitively active.
- $2,247 to York Jewish Community Center for CPR Training and Outreach, to replace outdated and worn CPR manikins that are used to train and re-certify more than 400 individuals per year.

Memorial Health Fund became a supporting organization of York County Community Foundation in 2015 and committed to $869,000 in grants in 2016. Previously, Memorial Health Fund was a supporting organization of Memorial Hospital.
