Bill Hartman To Retire As President Of York County Community Foundation: Jane Conover, Senior Vice President, Named As Successor

William R. Hartman has announced his intention to retire as President of York County Community Foundation immediately following the Foundation’s Annual Meeting in May. He will remain on the Board as a community volunteer and First Vice Chair to the Board of Directors. He plans to continue to remain active in York County as a community volunteer. Jane M. Conover, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of President as Hartman’s successor. The unanimous decision to name Conover as successor was a result of the Board’s planned management succession process that culminated in a recommendation by both the Board Management Succession Committee and the Governance Committee at its March meeting.

“We are grateful to Bill Hartman for his strategic leadership and clear direction that has enabled the Community Foundation to make the highest possible contribution to our donors and community,” said Paul L. Rudy III, chair of the Community Foundation’s Board. “Jane Conover has demonstrated the leadership skills coupled with the necessary knowledge of our organization and the community to be the best possible choice to continue our positive momentum. She will also be backed up by some of the most capable and creative community foundation staff members in the business” added Rudy.

Hartman, a native of York and a former York banker, joined the Foundation in July of 2009 after a distinguished career capped by serving seven years as Chairman, President, and CEO of one of the nation’s 50 largest banks. During his tenure at the Community Foundation, the Foundation’s endowment grew to more than $100 million; YorkCounts merged into the Foundation, and the Foundation took a more active role in community leadership and improvement after successfully implementing a new mission and business model.

“I’d like to thank our board, staff, donors, professional advisors and the entire community for their unwavering support of the Community Foundation’s objectives and initiatives,” stated Hartman. “The Board’s selection of Jane Conover to be President effective in May ensures that we will have continued strong leadership and can consistently build on our solid strategic direction,” he added.

Conover joined the Foundation in 2010 as Vice President of Community Investment after successfully serving for 13 years in various leadership roles at the YWCA of York and finally as its Chief Community Officer. Under her leadership, the Community Foundation strengthened its impact through focused grantmaking to address the community’s greatest needs. She was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in March of 2014 and took on added responsibilities for marketing, communications, and managing the Foundation’s organizational development process.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with all our constituencies to build the strongest Community Foundation possible so that together we create an even more vibrant York County,” said Conover.
