At its 2015 Annual Meeting on May 14, York County Community Foundation announced that Memorial Health Systems Foundation (MHSF) has been named its first supporting organization. Previously, MHSF was a supporting organization of Memorial Hospital. After Memorial Hospital was bought by Community Health Systems, the Memorial Health Systems Foundation began to look for a partner to help it carry out its charitable purposes.
A supporting organization means that it will be affiliated with the Community Foundation but will have its own board of directors that is approved by the Community Foundation. While MHSF will comply with the Community Foundation’s policies and procedures, its board will have all grantmaking authority.
The mission of Memorial Health Systems Foundation is to improve the complete physical, mental and social well-being of the residents of York, Pennsylvania and is surrounding communities. MHSF will transfer approximately $15 million in assets to the Community Foundation on July 1st, 2015. The board will then develop a grantmaking program focused on health to be launched later this year.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Memorial Health Systems Foundation as the Community Foundation’s first supporting organization,” said Jane Conover, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “This partnership will benefit the Community Foundation and Memorial Health Systems Foundation, as well as the community as a whole through MHSF’s upcoming grantmaking program,” Conover continued. She added that the Community Foundation offers a tremendous service to private foundations that are looking for administrative and operating support from its experienced staff.
