York, PA — York County Community Foundation (YCCF) invested $6.7 million in the York County community by awarding grants to 375 nonprofits in 2019. This total reflects grants from YCCF’s Fund for York County, the Hahn Home Fund for Embracing Aging, Memorial Health Fund, and the rest of the 575 funds housed at the foundation.
More than 1,100 grants were awarded to support York County charities to improve people’s lives and build a vibrant community. Volunteer committees and Community Foundation staff use community plans, research and the intentions of donors who have established funds at the community foundation to evaluate and develop grant applications that have powerful impact. In 2019, grants are:
- making York County a great place to age
- preparing youth for their future
- connecting workers with skills and employment
- enhancing vibrancy of downtowns & neighborhoods
- protecting the environment
- creating opportunities for everyone to thrive
- and more.
Nearly $750,000 of the total awarded was granted to local nonprofits from 160 agency endowments, which provide a perpetual source of revenue to fund the good work they do in our community each and every day.
“These grants are made possible by the hundreds of Yorkers who have created or donated to funds at the community foundation,” said YCCF President & CEO Jane M. Conover. “They have chosen to make their gift go further by investing in a vibrant York County today and for future generations.”
In 2019, donors gave $5.3 million to YCCF to support causes they care about in our community, and started 14 new funds to provide that support in perpetuity. Gifts made to YCCF are endowed, which means that they are invested to grow over time and create an impact that is exponentially greater than a one-time gift.
