York County Community Foundation Announces Partnership with Leadership York’s FLY Program

(York, PA, January 28, 2025) – York County Community Foundation (YCCF) and Leadership York are excited to announce a valuable partnership between Leadership York’s Future Leaders of York (FLY) program and YCCF.

“The York County Community Foundation believes that collaboration is crucial to innovative community solutions, and we are thrilled to see local FLY students engaging in philanthropy and the grant-making process,” shared Michele Mummert, Vice President of Grants & Community Engagement at YCCF.

The FLY Program is open to qualifying sophomores and juniors from over twenty York County high schools. FLY students develop leadership skills by participating in community service projects, networking with established community leaders, and by learning about informed giving and grant-making. The students learn about issues affecting our community and efforts by local nonprofit agencies working to address them.

Through this new partnership, YCCF committed a total of $20,000 to allow FLY students to distribute up to $10,000 each to two nonprofits, or to award smaller grants to several nonprofit projects that address a significant issue affecting the York County community. This year, the group is accepting applications for initiatives that offer accessible health services, designed to educate and promote the overall well-being of local residents. Eligible nonprofit agencies are invited to apply for this grant opportunity.

Wilda Reahm-Alessi, Executive Director at Leadership York says, “Our partnership with YCCF builds on the impactful grant opportunities historically offered through the FLY program, further enhancing students’ real-world experiences and expanding their ability to create meaningful change. By providing additional financial and educational resources, this collaboration empowers the next generation of leaders to deepen their understanding of community challenges and take bold, thoughtful actions. FLY students bring incredible passion and fresh perspectives, and we are proud to support them as they directly impact York County through this grant-making process.”
