The traumatic and violent events in Washington D.C. yesterday remind us of the deep and passionately held divisions in our country. In a democracy, debate is healthy but violence is unacceptable. Fair and equal treatment is also a principle of democracy. The stark differences in how yesterday’s protesters were treated compared to those protesting racial inequality last summer cannot be ignored.
YCCF will continue to promote and support peaceful, respectful and inclusive ways to bridge our differences and work collectively together towards the common good.
Let the events of the past year urge us to do better. We all deserve better.
