Kathleen was a graduate of West York High School, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning her master’s Equivalency from Villanova University, Vandercook College of Music, and The University of the Arts. She served as Director of Orchestras and string specialist in the Southern York County School District for 32 years, and Director of the York Junior Symphony Orchestra for 27 years.

In 1996 she earned the distinction of the National School Orchestra Director of the Year, an award given to one individual in the nation. She was a violinist in the York Symphony Orchestra for 38 years and the first violinist in the Salem String Quartet. The Kathleen Yeater Fund for the York Junior Symphony Orchestra (YJSO) was established this year in honor of Ms. Yeater’s twenty-seven years of service as the Director of the YJSO. This fund was set up to provide financial support to honor her desire for all youth to be able to fully participate in the YJSO, regardless of geography, transportation, socioeconomic, or other extraneous barriers.
