Roland M. and Lillian R. Whitmire Fund for York County

Roland and Lillian Whitmire loved classical music, books, and travel.Their passion for life took them all over the world, and on their travels, Mr. Whitmire photographed architectural renderings of famous ships and then built model ships based on the photographs. When they made their estate plans, the Whitmires directed their passion back to their community. They included the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of their trust, and in doing so, created a new $2 million Fund for York County, the largest single gift ever to the Fund for York County. Another fund was created to endow their support of Planned Parenthood of Central Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Whitmire lived their lives fulfilling their passions, and knew that through estate planning, they could help their hometown do the same. Extra info: Mr. Whitmire served in the Army during World War II, and worked for many years at GTE North (now Verizon). He built his model ships from scratch and spent three months completing each one. Notes under Lillian and Roland’s profile.
