The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a local nonprofit organization serving York and Adams Counties. NAMI was founded in 1984 by a group of family members wanting more for their loved ones living with a mental health condition. Our name has changed over the years, but our mission remains the same. We provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness to help individuals and families affected by mental illness build better lives. We offer a number of services that include our weekly Connection Support Groups for individuals living with a mental health condition to our monthly Family Support Groups helping families navigate the mental health system. NAMI offers a variety of trainings and education series for families, individuals, first responders, college students and the community. In 2021, we introduced our PAUSE program for students in middle school and high school. This program provides weekly in-school support groups led by trained peers for students who are struggling with their mental health.
We are grateful for the support from our community and from a private donor, to have been able to establish the NAMI-YA Endowment Fund. Education and support are key factors to recovery, and through the endowment fund, NAMI-YA will ensure support and education are able to help future generations with their mental health.
