Community Grant Reader: Melissa King

Read what inspired Melissa King to become a community grant reader with YCCF and learn how you can join this passionate group of volunteers.

How did you learn about this volunteer opportunity? I am fortunate to work for a company that believes in service as one of its core values. Thankfully, an email was shared, and here I am!

What do you like best about being a community grant reader? Being able to serve our community, and the programs that have a need. Also, being able to see many of the grant programs succeed, and knowing it is going to benefit so many is such a great feeling.

Which causes are you most passionate about? Senior Citizen Programs are so underserved and knowing they have taken care of us for so long, I think it is important to pay that forward.

Which grant was the most impactful for you, and why? I’d have to say one of the top ones for me was during my 2020 reader program and reading about the needs from the York County Food Bank during the Covid-19 pandemic. The need was and still is so very important, and it has had a tremendous impact on serving our County.

What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you? I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Not a musical bone in my body, but 2022 may be the year I try it out!
